  • BIOGRAPHY
Barry Wellman started keypunching in 1965 as a grad student in the bowels of Harvard University. (Read about his computing history on his website.) Wellman has done a number of studies of how ICTs integrate with other forms of contact to sustain and expand interaction at work and in communities. He also was a co-developer of the Telepresence desktop videoconferencing system. Wellman has written over 200 articles (many recent ones are on his website.) With Caroline Haythornthwaite, he coedited _The Internet in Everyday Life_ (Blackwells 2002). At present, he suffers from a herniated cervical disk from computing too much.
