Perception of what is possible for a social connection at a distance changing as technology has advanced and expanded. People are increasingly willing to believe in the possibility of close connection over distance.

Highway systems, steam engines, airplanes, and autos all changed how we thought about distance, much the same way IT's are changing our perception today
