We've been distracted by looking at netscan images (we'll post them later to the wiki) describing alt.support groups. We're considering the thesis that ailments that are relatively rare offline will be overrepresented online.

Chrons-colitis was one good indicator of this in netscan. A relatively rare disorder that is highly discussed in its group.

One problem that is so much of this discussion has migrated from Usenet to web boards. Usenet is not a very good environment for such a discussion.

What kind of tools and sampling strategies would be appropriate
