There is plenty of room -- the wireless is good, so do please spend part or all of the day at MC2.0. tomorrow, August 10. Getting into town during the day? Come in the afternoon, or better for lunch.

Several have asked how the offsite participation will work. here's a few guidelines.

1) we will be moderating the F2F participatioon and posting bits and pieces to the forum.

2) anyone online can post comments or questions to the forum

3) anything that we want to highlight or hold onto in a more permanent way will be moved to the wiki

4) we'd like to limit posting to the wiki during MC2.0 from 8-5 to the onsite moderators. This NOT an effort to control content, but a technical issue of avoiding simultaneous page edits

5) anyone CAN ask the moderators to post anything to the wiki during 8-5 hours. Simply post a message to the forum with the subject line:

FORUM POST

6) Between 8-10 EST (Montreal is on EST) we will focus on technical questions -- and suggestions. Remember this is an experiment.

I've been thinking about this and maybe people can post on the wiki during those hours while still avoiding conflicts. First off, the wiki software will warn you if someone else is editing a page that you are editing. Second, most of the time people are only editing one section of a page or adding a new section, and others can edit other sections without any conflect. Third, when users create new pages, there will be no conflict.

So maybe we should rather tell offsite users to edit small sections of pages, create new pages, and watch out for warnings that others are editing pages, and if they see one, to hold off their edits until they see that others are finished.

Good points Chris,

As a moderator, I'll probably be busy with face to face stuff, particularly during my session. I'm sure others will appreciate the time to work on the wiki, if they're so inclined (better than checking email and surfing. eh!)

So is there any way to limit certain parts of the wiki? For example, I can write highlights, but only write in a particular section, then that leaves other sections open.

Well, perhaps you've noticed that most of the wiki pages have an edit link above each section and subsection of the page. Most of the time users will click those rather than editing the entire page. So it is probably unlikely that anyone else will edit the highlights section while you are.

If you want, you can write the highlights on a separate page, so no one else will be likely to edit it in the first place. I think this is the best idea, because it makes good use of the wiki software. Smile After all there is no limit to the number of pages we can make.

OK, so just to be straight us 'on-liners' should post to the forum.

If we have a paper up will we get feedback from anyone on-site?
